Kaleidoscope
Kaleidoscope
The light going into the kaleidoscope is life, the colors and geometrical shapes created through this are an individual's personality, their soul and being, which is where the beauty is found.
The first thought that came into my mind when I think of the word Kaleidoscope, is the fragmented shapes made when you twist the tube. Since a kaleidoscope is significant to an individuals personality, soul and being this makes perfect sense to me. Not everyone is fragmented, but trauma causes fragmentation even in the most secure of souls. When trauma occurs, it shapes a persons mind and causes reactions to situations that others may not see as critical or a reason to over-react. When trauma occurs, that part of us that sustains the trauma lives inside of us and becomes part of us if you will. When the trauma isn't addressed, that part remains active in us for a long time, sometimes forever. Then what will happen is that the part when it responds, gets so scared, it's like throwing a potato sack over our head so we can't see and can't respond rationally. We get scared and react as if we are still in that moment in time. That to me is like moving the kaleidoscope to rearrange the pieces. Sometimes that creates something beautiful, sometimes something that doesn't make any sense and like any kind of art, sometimes it creates something that some see as ugly, while others fit it into their world as usual. It's complex. However, if we address trauma, it's like moving the kaleidoscope to something we see as beautiful. We can arrange things to make sense and fit into our world. It's not as easy as turning a tube, but when we are able to make sense of things, and able to heal our parts, then it becomes that easy....and we can eventually prevent those potato sacks from being thrown over our heads. That right there is a beautiful thing and eventually our personality, soul, being, and parts all become one and that's when you can finally see the beauty in life, even when life is hard.
