Inattentiveville, Population One

12/29/2021

I have determined I live in a town all my very own.  Inattentive Town.  It's population, one.  Me, myself and I.  I have come to this conclusion based on many inattentive moments in my life, but the most recent moment really brought how inattentive I can be to the forefront of my mind.

Two weeks ago on a Friday night, the weather forecasted snow.  I had a variety of items in my backyard I needed to pick up and pack away before the snow hit, particularly bagging up some recycling that would have been a mess if I left it out in the snow.  I told my puppies I was going outside and I'd be back in a moment.  They get upset if I don't let them know I'm leaving the house.  Preparing to do work outside, I had my iPod with me as music helps motivate me in a big way.  I realized though, that I didn't have my earphones and going back in the house I would upset the pups so I decided to put my iPod on a stand, turn up the music and listen to it that way.  For a few hours I was really busy cleaning up, putting things away, and securing my Jeep for the bad weather.  When I was done, I was so proud of myself for accomplishing all these things.  I went back inside all set for the snow.

It didn't snow that night, but it sure did downpour so I was super happy everything was done.  On Monday as I prepared to go to work I got my phone and looked for my iPod for my music at work.  I couldn't find it.  I figured I was probably looking with my eyes closed and it had to be around.  Later that night I came home and scoured the house.  Under the bed, in between the cushions of the couch, under the couch, in the Jeep, anywhere I could think and to no avail.  I'm sure I had an inattentive moment where I put it down but didn't pay attention and was sure I put it in some obscure place like the top of the fridge.

For 5 days I looked for my iPod.  Using find my iPhone wouldn't work because the battery was surely dead by now and the signal won't be picked up because it's off line.  It'll turn up I thought.

And then it did.  5 days later I pulled into my driveway and noticed something shiny and pink on top of my grill.  "Oh no.....no no no".  But oh yes.  It was my iPod.  Then it dawned on me I had it outside while I was cleaning up the yard before the snow, which turned out to be downpouring rain.  Seriously, how did I leave my iPod outside for 5 days and not know it.  How could I have been SO inattentive that one of my favorite things in the world was left to shiver and freeze outside?  How?  I lifted up the iPod and there was a nice puddle under it, making hopes of it starting really dim.  I brought the iPod inside and it was dead, but I figured it would be without being charged for 5 days.  I plugged it in and let his charge for 24 hours.  I took a hairdryer to it.  I tried everything I could but it didn't work.  I have taken to disassembling it to try and get it to work, but it's at a point that IF I can salvage it, I may ruin it by taking it apart.  So now it's sitting, apart, with a cracked screen waiting for me to bring it someplace to get it fixed, if it can be.

How in the world did I do this to myself?  Well, it's not too uncommon for me because, after all, I do live in Inattentiveville,  population of one which reminds me, though I wish it was only a place I visit, I live there and most likely always will but it's okay.  It's my home and I'm okay with that.
